Seal in the Goodness

Parents often overlook the importance of maintaining the health of their children’s baby teeth.  This is probably because they know that they will eventually be replaced by permanent teeth.  But what parents do not know is that a child’s molar and pre-molar teeth are among the last to be replaced, and more often than not, a child’s tooth will be damaged once the replacement comes in.

As a dentist that takes cares of family’s needs, I often recommend the use of protective dental sealants for my patient’s children.  Dental sealants are very thin, plastic coatings that are painted on the surface of a patient’s teeth to prevent tooth decay.  This is usually applied to the back teeth which are more prone to getting damaged.  Dental sealants create a protective shield over the tooth enamel and seals out the food and plaque that are not often reached when you brush the back of the mouth, especially in young children.

If your child’s tooth has deep grooves or depressions, it is recommended that you get a dental sealant for their baby teeth so that they will not be lost early because baby teeth play an important role in the proper spacing of the permanent teeth that will soon come in.  Making this small investment on your child’s dental health will ensure that they will have healthy baby teeth until it’s time for the new ones to come in.
