How to Know if Your Little One Has Dental Pain

As a parent, nothing is worse than seeing your child sick or in pain. Not only does it make you feel like all power is out of your hands but you have to see your little one suffer through a sickness without having the energy to run around and play as usual. Unlike things that are a bit more obvious like a cold or the stomach flu, tooth pain can sometimes be hard to pin point in your kids. So, how will you know if your child is suffering from dental pain? Read on to learn more.

  1. Chewing on One Side

If you suspect that your child might be suffering from some sort of dental related pain or injury, pay attention to the way they chew their food. Are they just chewing it on one side or do they move their food from side to side like normal? If their food is just staying to one side, this is a strong indication that they are suffering from some sort of tooth pain.

  1. Not Hungry

If your child’s dental pain is bad enough, they might not have any sort of appetite at all because chewing food simply hurts too much. If you notice that your child doesn’t even want to eat their favorite food for lunch or snacktime, but their stomach doesn’t hurt, this is another large sign that they are suffering from some sort of dental pain.

  1. Refusing to Brush Their Teeth

Let’s face it— when you have a toothache, the last thing you want to do is brush around it. Not only does it cause more pain and discomfort, but you just want to leave your mouth alone. If you notice that your little one is refusing to brush their teeth all of a sudden, then this might be another indication that they are suffering from some sort of dental pain. If your child always refuses to brush their teeth, however, then this probably won’t be a helpful identifying step in the process.
